Educator Innovator Award 2009

“It is clear to us that simulation provides student self-confidence in performing clinical skills and procedures”

AIMST University’s brand new Clinical Skills Center boasts the latest simulation technology available from METI including the HPS(R), PediaSIM(R), iStan(R), ECS(R), BabySIM(R), TDCK(TM), METIVision(R) and SurgicalSIM(R) products. This state-of-the-art facility includes an Emergency Department, Operating Room, Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and was the host of the 2nd Annual HPSN-Malaysia Conference last Fall.

At AIMST, students begin by learning on modular based teaching programs and low-fidelity simulators and then later in their undergraduate careers are introduced to high-fidelity simulators and acute scenarios. “Simulation plays and important role in the training of our students because it enhances their competency in clinical skills and procedures, prior to clerkship while standardizing clinical skills and procedures,” said Professor Ernest Teiko Larmie, AIMST Clinical Skills Centre Head Coordinator. “It is clear to us that simulation provides students self-confidence in performing clinical skills and procedures.”

AIMST University is a strong supporter of medical simulation and believes that facilitation of learning on simulators motivates students to acquire more knowledge about the skills they are mastering and encourages students to develop a habit of continous self learning. Approximately 400 students train at the Skills Centre each year.
